Osun may witness serious security crises over unpaid salaries – PDP

Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Thursday warned of impending serious security crises if salaries are not paid within seven days.

The PDP, in a statement issued in Osogbo by the party’s Director of Media and Strategy, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said from all indications, the June 30 deadline for the payment of salaries by Aregbesola, rather than solving the problem, is heightening tension among residents.

PDP also warned the governor’s aides against insulting people that are making efforts to bail the state out of the “quagmire”.

PDP said the situation of the state workers vis-a-vis the demands of Ramadan was unfortunate, urging Aregbesola to ensure that workers were paid by 21st of June to stem rising tension among the residents.

The PDP said: “We have rightly been informed that crime rate is on the rise, no thanks to the economic crises Ogbeni has plunged the state into. Many more people are taking to crime because of cash crunch.

“And despite the concerted efforts by the police that have resulted in arrests, these criminals cannot be kept for more than 24hours because courts are under lock.”

PDP made reference to the tweet by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who announced donation of his wardrobe allowance to unpaid Osun workers.

It advised Aregbesola and his supporters to expect more statements from well-meaning Nigerians, saying it was a result of his failure. .
