Joint Labour Unions in Osun State, comprising both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have given a seven-day notice of strike to the state government over the non-payment of salaries, pensions and gratuity.
This was stated in a statement signed over the weekend in Osogbo by some union leaders.
They noted that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on December 30, 2017, between the state government and the leadership of the union had failed to yield its expected results.
The statement was jointly signed by Chairman JPSNC, Bayo Adejumo; Chairman NLC, Jacob Adekomi; Chairman TUC, Adebowale Ademola; Secretary JNC, R.A Oyegbami; Secretary NLC, Rufus Adeyemi, and Secretary TUC, Akin Olatunbosun.
The statement read in Part: “After critical review of the unbending posture of the state government, despite the three-day notice strike warning to accede to the demands of workers, the situation failed to provide the expected answer to the amelioration of the workers.
“We are constrained to use this medium to give the government seven days’ notice of strike which would commence on September 10.
“We demand the expected salaries, pensions and gratuities which had subjected the state workers to unabated hardship are paid.”
