Hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members on Monday blocked the Osogbo-Ikirun road in Osun state to protest against the party’s primary election held on Saturday in which Senator Ademola Adeleke emerged victorious with 1569 votes to defeat Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, who polled the total votes of 1562.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the PDP secretariat, one of the party stalwarts who is loyal to Ogunbiyi, Mr Funso Babarinde accused the Governor Seriake Dickson-led electoral panel of fraud, claiming that the contest was skewed in favour of Adeleke.
He alleged that the chunk of ballots marked as void votes were for Ogunbiyi, and that this robbed the aspirant of victory.
Babarinde demanded a total cancellation of the exercise, citing irregularities in the whole process.
“The process of the primary election was a total fraud and a day light robbery, virtually all the votes marked as void belonged to Ogunbiyi.
“Governor Dickson also refused to recount those votes allotted to Ademola, while that of Ogunbiyi was recounted, and error discovered.
“The same thing should have been done for Ademola, but Dickson refused despite all our pleas.
“We therefore call for total cancellation of that exercise for the purpose of justice and peace.”
