There is palpable anxiety among political players in Osun State as the election tribunal sitting on the petition filled by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against the September 22 governorship election, is set to deliver judgement on Friday.
While some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have openly expressed apprehension to the extent of going spiritual by organising aggressive prayers to ensure victory, PDP members believe the judgement will favour their candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
A group within the APC, Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation, had on Wednesday disclosed that it would be embarking on an aggressive prayer session for the governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, as a way of supporting him spiritually to be victorious at the tribunal.
According to the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Sikiru Tijani, “This prayer became imperative because we cannot afford to take the state, which has been experiencing monumental development in the last eight years, back to abject poverty and penury.
“Our prayer will surely be answered because God is not unjust God. We believe in efficacy of prayer and since we are on the right side of justice, victory is guaranteed.
“We believe so much in our party and we are very optimistic that the Tribunal judgement will favour us.”
However, a chieftain of PDP in Ile-Ife, Chief Solomon Tijani has expressed mixed feelings over the coming judgement, saying that the ruling APC should not be trusted on the independence of the judiciary.
“I do not have much confidence in the judiciary under this administration, I doubt if this government really believe in the independence of judiciary, they appear too desperate to adhere to rule of law and sanctity of the judiciary.
“I hope members of the Tribunal will be conscious of their career and write their names in gold by doing the right thing,” he said.
Speaking further on the impending judgement, the Director of Publicity, Research & Strategy of the APC in the state, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, told DAILY POST, that his party has no cause to entertain fear over the judgement.
“We are not concerned about the coming judgement. In fact, we are very optimistic of victory, we have no fear in our minds whatsoever that the judgement would be negative to us.
“Although, we have won narrowly, but our victory was squarely, so we have no ground to entertain fear at all,” Oyatomi resorted.
Also, the Osun State Chairman of PDP, Hon. Soji Adajunodo, while speaking on what would be the verdict of the Tribunal, expressed confidence that the judgement would be in favour of the PDP.
“We are highly hopeful to get justice and be victorious at the tribunal. We believe judiciary still remains the hope of the common man,” he said.
