The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has described the Supreme Court ruling on the Osun State governorship election tussle as cerebral.
The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Ademola of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adeleke against Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The group’s reaction came in a press statement issued to DAILY POST on Saturday by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
It added, “This judgement is cerebral. It could not have been otherwise. Oyetola’s predecessor, ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola laid a solid foundation for progress in all fields in the state and the citizens loved him.
“His welfare packages for the youth and the elderly were unprecedented. The macadamisation of the road network was unparalleled and the education sector witnessed a reform never before seen in the state.
“Just as President Muhammadu Buhari comes across as the indubitable father of modern Nigeria, Aregbesola is the epitome of selflessness, the very quintessence of altruism, the embodiment of statesmanship and the encapsulation of the fear of God in the corridor of power.
“Aregbesola did not collect one kobo as salary throughout his eight years in the government house. He never used the siren. He dressed very simply and never engaged in any flambouyance. If Buhari is frugal, Aregbesola is Spartan.
“That was why the opposition’s efforts at demonising Aregbesola’s personality ended in failure. Neither did they succeed in their attempts to demarket his legacy. It is not easy to obliterate the landmarks of good governance.
“Those who attempted to steal Oyetola’s mandate know the truth. Senator Ademola Adeleke remains a local champion and a political dwarf when it comes to general acceptance in the State of Osun. It is good that he has learnt his lesson.
“Blood relationship to a great politician and mesmerising dancing skill alone are not enough to supplant competence, transparency and accountability in governance. The Supreme Court has frustrated the attempt by a self-centered few to sacrifice excellence on the altar of mediocrity.
“We hail the judges of the Supreme Court for their boldness, firmness and meticulousness. We thank Governor Oyetola for saving the people of the State of Osun from entering ‘one chance’ and we felicitate with him and the people of the state on this well-deserved victory. Equally worthy of commendation is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose political sagacity is legendary. He almost single-handedly restored the South West to the fold of progressive politics.
“The people of the State of Osun spoke with one voice. Their choice is Oyetola and the Supreme Court has dignified the pople’s choice with its final pronouncement. This may not be Venice. Neither are the combatant’s merchants. This is Nigeria and the dramatis personae are politicians. But at last, a Daniel has come to judgement!’
“In our concluding remarks, we urge Nigerians to do away with parasitical, opportunistic and sycophantic candidature. The era of political Liliputians cashing in on the pedestal of heredity and disrupting party discipline is over. So is unmerited godfatherism.”
