The Action Democratic Party (ADP) on Saturday flagged off its campaign for the Osun State gubernatorial election slated for September 22, promising to change the political narrative in the state.
The event, which was held at Ilesa, the home town of incumbent Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, witnessed massive turn out of party faithful, especially many defectors from the ruling All Progressives congress (APC).
The standard bearer of the party, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, who was until recently the Secretary to the Osun State Government, said there was the urgent need in the state to correct “socio-economic anomalies”.
He decried the irregular payment of workers’ salaries, adding that one of the first major steps his government would take if elected was to put stop to the situation.
“My government will be an all-inclusive government that takes care of all without preference, including royal institution.
“I will change the orientation of the youths towards nation-building through development of sports activities.
“Our government if elected will embark on total review of Aregbesola’s policies to make it pro-masses and make everybody represented in the scheme of things.
“We indeed need your supports to make this aspiration a reality and change the fortunes of our state for better,” Adeoti said.
Meanwhile, the ADP flag bearer has condemned in totality attacks on some of his members while returning from the event.
This was contained in a press statement signed by his media aide, Kayode Agbaje and made available to newsmen in Osogbo.
Adeoti described the attack as barbaric and inimical to democratic principles.
According to him, such barbaric acts ought to be condemned by all right-thinking democrats in view of its effects on the nation’s democratic experience.
“While warning the masterminds of the dastardly act to have a rethink, there is need for all candidates in the election not to see the contest as a do-or-die affair,” he said.
The aspirant however advised members of his party against embarking on retaliatory actions that may further worsen the already tensed situation.
