Osun guber: ADC settles for former SSG, Akinbade

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has picked former Secretary to the Osun State Government, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade as its flag bearer for the September 22 gubernatorial election in the state.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the National Chairman of the party, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu.

According to the statement, Akinbade’s emergence was consequent upon the voluntary withdrawal of Hon Kazeem Ademola Adio, who was hitherto the candidate of the party.

Nwosu in the statement described Akinbade as a grassroot politician with satisfactory knowledge of local politics and outstanding leadership qualities.

He added that the party flag bearer was loved by the people of the state due to “his masses-oriented philosophy, which include volunteerism, integrity, and endearing humanity,” which in his words corresponded with ADC’s ideology.

“Our party is pleased to present a leader, an accomplished public servant, and a man always at home with his people to replace Hon Adio; to us, in this trying times, especially as it affects Osun and its people, Alhaji Fatal Akinbade perfectly fits the bill to rescue the state from the proxy war of politicians based outside the state.

“Judging from the candidates being paraded by other parties in the coming election in the state, we can readily beat our chest that we shall coast home to victory at the Osun gubernatorial polls because Akinbade stands a shoulder above all of them.

“He has served the state in different capacities as SSG, Commissioner, and the Chairman that led PDP to victory in 2003. Well loved by the state’s civil servants and teachers. He has the needed clout to win the coming election and re-engineer the state to a lofty heights”, Nwosu said.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman has implored the people of the state to rally round the candidature of Akinbade so as to ensure his emergence as the next governor of the state.

DAILY POST reports that Akinbade, a former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested the 2014 governorship election won by the incumbent, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola under the banner of Labour Party, after his inability to secure PDP’s ticket.

He, however, returned to the PDP lately to vie for the party ticket but lost to Senator Ademola Adeleke, who polled the total votes of 1569, while Akinbade got 53 votes.
