Osun govt. gives ultimatum to ex- commissioners to vacate apartments

A cross section of ex-commissioners in Osun State, who are still occupying their official quarters have been slammed with an ultimatum of Wednesday, February 22, to vacate the apartments, DAILY POST reports.

This was contained in a secular from the office of the Governor, and signed by one Mrs Kolawole, who is the Permanent Secretary, Head of General Service.

A reliable source in the office of the governor told our reporter that the Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola handed down the directive in anticipation of the new cabinet, before leaving for lesser hajj over the weekend.

DAILY POST had earlier in January reported that a circular was issued from the office of the chief of staff to governor Aregbesola, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, directing the former cabinet members to vacate their apartments.

Although, the reason given for the eviction was to create room for renovation, it was authoritatively gathered that the directive became necessary so as to forestall any friction between the former, and the incoming cabinet members.

However, some of the ex- commissioners have been making last minute moves to meet up with the deadline, as general feelings in the state suggest that many of the ex- commissioners might not make it back to the cabinet.

Speaking with DAILY POST over the development on Tuesday, a public affairs analyst, Mr Babatunde Ifeoluwa said it was wrong for ex-commissioners to still be occupying official quarters even after the dissolution of the cabinet about 2 years ago.

He expressed displeasure over what he described as “executive impunity” and urged the media and civil society organisations(CSO) alike to always live up to their callings as the watchdog of the society, and check the excesses of political office holders.

Ifeoluwa stressed that society could not attain egalitarianism with political impunity and abuse of privileges, saying all hands must be on deck to institutionalise “functional and ideal political system.”
