Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, Monday, stayed away from a summit organised to proffer ways out of the current financial quagmire, Osun, his home state has found itself.
The summit was called by the Osun Legislators’Forum, comprising federal lawmakers from the state and members of the state House of Assembly.
Two other prominent indigenes of the state, the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori and Senator Isiaka Adeleke were absent, but Lasun’s absence raised more eyebrows.
The summit had in attendance Governor Rauf Aregbesola; former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin (retd), monarchs and other prominent leaders in the state.
The absence of the Deputy Speaker may have given credence to speculations that the rift which his emergence as the deputy speaker caused between him and Aregbesola is still on.
Lasun, representing Osogbo/ Olorunda/ Orolu Federal Constituency, defied the position of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest the position of the deputy speaker and won.
Similarly, the APC Elders’ Forum in State asked him to resign and also called for his sanction, but the lawmaker rejected their calls.
One of the lawmakers, Alhaja Ayo Omidiran, while explaining the rationale behind the decision of the lawmakers to host the summit on Saturday at a press conference, only said Lasun was expected to attend the summit when she was asked why he did not show up for the briefing.
