As the process for the selection of the party flag bearer in the July 8 by-election within the ruling All Progressive Congress( APC), in Osun West Senatorial District continues, one of the two aspirants, Senator Mudashir Hussein has been allegedly disqualified.
A source within the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state told DAILY POST on Saturday that Husein, who is a serving Commissioner was accused of flouting the electoral law, which stipulates 30 days for anyone who is in a public servant to resign his/her appointment before vying for an elective office.
DAILY POST recalls that a 5-man panel was set up by the National Secretariat of the APC to conduct a thorough screening for aspirants against the June 12 primary.
Meanwhile, during the process, three out of the five aspirants that picked up nomination forms as at Friday stepped down midway into the screening exercise, leaving Ademola Adeleke and senator Mudashir Husein in the race.
It was alleged that the panel frowned at the candidacy of Husein, who they said ought to have resigned his appointment as a Commissioner at least, 30 days before expressing interest to contest for the vacant senatorial seat.
The source added that , the panel, base on the sacrosanct electoral position subsequently disqualified Husein, and automatically made Adeleke unopposed in the forth coming primary.
However, Husein, in a telephone interview with our reporter debunked the information, describing it as a mere rumour.
According to him, the only objection to his candidacy was a petition submitted to the panel by a group, which indicted him of anti-party activities during gubernatorial election in Ondo State in 2016.
” It is not true, do not mind the rumour mongers, that section of the electoral law is not applicable in my own case, and that could only be valid if I am a civil servant.
“Some people only submitted a petition accusing me of anti-party activities in the last Ondo election,” he said.
