The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Osun State has allegedly accused the opposition of planning to cause chaos and instigate the declaration of state of emergency in Osun.
The Acting Chairman of the party, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, made the allegation while addressing ACN leaders in Ayedaade Local Government during the visit of the State Working Committee (SWC) to the area.
Adebiyi urged the police to be on the alert, saying, “If by any act of commission or omission, desperate politicians in the opposition are allowed to play out their evil pranks, the consequences will resonate terribly across the country.”
He admonished the opposition to learn from what happened in 1962 in the then Western Region when unscrupulous politicians instigated violence in the parliament in Ibadan, which he said led to the declaration of a state of emergency by the Federal Government.
The party boss alleged that some members of the opposition were planning to use students, teachers and Islamic scholars to create chaos by organising a protest across the state.
He urged the police to keep a close watch on some politicians, who “are known to have perfected the use of violent tactics in the pursuit of their political ambition”.
The ACN chieftain advised the people not to be deceived into engaging in violence. According to him, “everybody will suffer when terror rules over the land”. Adebiyi urged residents to support reforms in education, saying it is in their best interest.
