Osun 2018: Durotoye dumps PDP

Ahead of the September 22 governorship poll in Osun State, one of the gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Adeolu Durotoye has dumped his party.

He has been picked as running mate of the standard bearer of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Chief Moshood Adeoti.

Adeoti, a former Secretary to the Osun State Government (SSG) made this disclosure in Osogbo, through his media aide, Mr Kayode Agbaje.

Speaking on his defection, Durotoye, a professor of political science in Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), said, “it is true absolutely that I have left the PDP and have been picked as running mate to the governorship candidate of the ADP”.

While explaining his rationale for dumping the PDP, he stated that “you should know when to jump out of a sinking ship and you saw what has been happening and you can see the trend that ADP has emerged as the only credible alternative to misrule and lack of focus and agenda in Osun State”.

Durotoye further stressed that “if you have been following the trend of defection lately in Osun, only yesterday about 6,000 people defected from the APC to ADP. Today, a special adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola defected to our party, ADP. Many more defections are coming. Political party is made by the quality of the people in the party.”

“This isn’t a question of newness, people are yearning for a positive change and not a negative change or any kind of change. They know that ADP is the only party now that can deliver that positive change”, he asserted.
