Osun 2018: Anxiety as State Accountant General quits Aregbesola government

There was palpable anxiety on Friday as the Osun State Accountant General, Mr Alaba Kolawole resigned his appointment through a letter addressed to Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Kolawole had notified Aregbesola in a letter of his intention to quit as Accountant General of the state starting from Monday, September 10.

He also informed all banks in the state of the development through another letter.

DAILY POST gathered that the Governor has earlier approved the extension of Kolawole’s service, whose last day in office was supposed to be July 31st, 2018.

While a source in the government circle described the development as not unusual, saying every public office holder has the liberty to quit service anytime he deems fit, others adduced the development to internal friction in the Ministry of Finance.

“Nothing unusual about the resignation, it is a personal decision of the AG, people are just creating unnecessary issues when there is none.

“Is the Osun AG the first public official to resign his appointment, people should stop politicising every issue for selfish interest “, the source said.

Meanwhile, a stalwart of an opposition party in the state, simply identified as Gbagida has said that there was acrimony among top echelon in the Ministry of Finance, which forced the AG to resign his appointment.

He said some All Progressives Congress’ bigwigs, who are very close to the Governor have highjacked the control of campaign funds for the September 22 gubernatorial election, which the AG considered unethical, and an affront on his office.

Efforts to speak with the AG have, however, proved abortive, as his mobile line was switch off as at the time of filing this report.
