Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu again? The South East of All Progressives Congress (APC) is asking this valid question with all sense of humility; following the statement in major national newspapers, credited to one of our illustrious sons, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a member Board of Trustee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
‘I therefore strongly suggest that since South South Region has four years out of the the constitutional eight years, it should be allowed to complete eight years. I once more appeal to my people of South East who are legitimately demanding for the presidency of Nigeria to subjugate this ambition to the unity, peace and stability of Nigeria by supporting South South. After South South has completed its tenure of eight years, the presidency will naturally go to the North. In effect, in four years time, all Nigerians will support presidency going to the North. After eight years in the North, the presidency will come back to the South. When it comes to the South, it will automatically be the turn of South East, since the South West and South South have taken their own turns.’
The South East APC is worried that inspite of the zenith of liberal democracy which Nigeria has attained with two major political parties – PDP and APC prevailing in multi-party system; the likes of Chief Iwuanyanwu regrettably still lives with the hang-over of one party state. Otherwise, it is either out of mischief or sheer ignorance that the High Chief’s presidential allocation failed to mention that APC’s victory in 2015 presidential election will make it faster for a president of Igbo extraction to emerge before 2027.
His arithmetic is wrong headed and self serving. Following his analysis, a Jonathan victory leaves Ndigbo in the lurch till 2027, possibly without the Vice President, Senate President or Speaker. A Buhari victory guarantees Ndigbo president 2023, possibly with Vice President, Senate President or Speaker.
Secondly, which constitution is the High Chief referring to, when he said, ‘ since the South South Region has four years out of the constitutional eight years’?
Going further with his less than transparent epistle, the High Chief said,
‘This is very trying period for our country and I appeal to all leaders to subjugate their individual interest. I must confess I have on my own held private discussions with some leaders from various parts of the country, making this proposal and all those I discussed with were in support of my opinion.’
We of the South East APC do not know the calibre of people the High Chief consulted; however does it make valid sense to vote again for a president who has demonstrated clearly that he has no capacity to either secure the country, provide welfare to generality of Nigerians or plug the pervasive, endemic and systemic corruption under his watch?
Secondly, it is on record that more than 90% of South East registered voters voted for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,GCFR, in 2011 presidential election; did the South East get commensurate reward?
Our answer is capital No. This is a president who failed to enlist the 2nd Niger Bridge in the federal budget for continuity sake; thus placing the bridge in the vagaries of harsh loan weather. This is a president that forgot the promises he made serially to revive the Enugu Coal. This is a president who woke up so late to convoke the National Conference; thus placing the good outcome in a culd- sac.
It is our considered opinion that Ndigbo must think out of box, think Bi-partisan and hence forth stop putting all our eggs in one basket and stop those who mortgage our destiny for self aggrandizement.
Lets we forget, is it not Chief Iwuanyanwu who abandoned many projects, including the Onuimo Silo project after collecting payment, a project which was meant to cushion peasant farmers in his home state? The probe of the Onuimo Silo project is ongoing. Here he comes again!
