The Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, the Most Rev. Adebayo Akinde on Thursday urged Nigerians to continually commune with God in prayers for a better nation.
Akinde made the plea when the Mothers Union and Women’s Guild of the Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion ), paid a visit to Mrs Olabisi Osinbajo at her home in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the visit was to felicitate with Mrs Osinbajo, mother of the Vice President of the Federal republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).
It was on the occasion of Mrs Osinbajo’s 83rd birthday.
Akinde, who is also the Bishop, Diocese of Lagos Mainland, said that communing with God had many benefits.
“Presently, there is massive yearning for our nation to undergo positive transformation.
“Our message today which is taken from Psalm 20 urges every one of us to commune with God through prayers because he is the surest protection that we have.
“In addition, we are all urged to seek divine providence for our needs; let us purge out obsession for material acquisition as it does not help anyone, individually or as a nation,’’ the Archbishop said.
Akinde also tasked Nigerians on income generation and diversification.
“We enjoy amassing unneeded wealth in Nigeria, yet we do not produce anything.
“I pray that God will turn our situation and values so that we can be thinking of making wealth.
“When we think of getting it from other sources other than God, we will be causing `wahala’ (problem) for ourselves,’’ he said.
The archbishop extolled the virtues of Mrs Osinbajo and called on women to emulate her love for God, firmness and determination.
“I thank God for the testimonies in the life of mama (mother).
“She is a good chorister. At her age, she still does not miss Bible Study and she is a loving mother,’’ he said.
Akinde prayed for the Osinbajo family; wisdom for the Vice President as well as peace and progress for the nation.
