Osinbajo’s aide insists Acting President will sign 2017 Budget

The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, will sign the 2017 budget when it is ready, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, has confirmed.

“Just so we are clear: when the time comes, everything is set, & he is satisfied, Ag. President Yemi Osinbajo will assent to the 2017 Budget,” he tweeted on Wednesday night.

Recall that there has been a controversy over who would be saddled with the responsibility of assenting to the budget, since President Buhari is in the UK for further medical check-ups.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had said there is no decision yet on who will assent to the 2017 budget.

He said this on Wednesday, while addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over Osinbajo.

Reacting to a question on whether the budget will be signed by Osinbajo or taken to President Muhammadu Buhari in London, the Minister said: “When it (the budget) is transmitted to the Presidency, that decision (on who to sign) will be taken‎.”
