Victor Osimhen’s next goal in the FIFA U-17 World Cup will see him equal the all-time record of nine goals in the competition.
The Golden Eaglets striker has netted eight times in the ongoing competition in Chile and is on course to match a record jointly held by France’s Florentine Sinama Pongolle and Souleyman Coulibally of Mali.
Already, Osimhen has equalled the eight goals of Germany’s Marcel Witecczek, which was set in China 1985.
If he finishes as top scorer in Chile, Osimhen will become the third Nigerian player to achieve the feat, after Wilson Oruma at Japan 1993 with six goals and Macauley Chrisantus at Korea 2007 with seven goals.
The Eaglets play Mexico on Thursday in a semi-final encounter.
