Ortom suspends LG chairman over salary payment in Benue

For flounting the governor’s directives on payment of salaries, the Benue state House of Assembly, Thursday suspended the Caretaker Chairman of Gwer Local Government Area of the state, Mr Dele Uzuku.

The State governor, Samuel Ortom had reported to the assembly on the non-compliance of the council boss to pay adequate salaries of workers.

It was gathered that Uzuku had paid salaries and contract arrears to political stakeholders without compliance to prompt payment of salaries as directed by the governor.

Recall that the caretaker chairmen in the state were directed to commence payment of current salaries and not arrears but instead of complying with the directive, Uzuku decided to pay the arrears of Nov 2011 to the staff of Gwer Local Government Council.

In their contributions, Mr Benjamin Adanyi, Terhemba Chabo and Joseph Ojobo (Ogbadibo constituency), said that the chairman should be sanctioned for flaunting the directives of the governor.
