Orji receives NYSC DG, assures of corpers’ welfare, security

Abia State government says it is committed to the security and welfare of National Youth Service corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state.

Governor Theodore Orji stated this at the Government House, Umuahia, when he received in audience the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme (NYSC), Brig-Gen Johnson Bamidele Olawumi, who paid him a courtesy visit.

According to Governor Orji, corpers’ safety was a priority of the state government, adding that the government was doing everything possible to make the NYSC camp at Umunnato in Bende Local Government Area conducive for the corps members.

To that end, he said that extra buildings were constructed at the camp to accommodate more corpers being deployed to the state.

The Governor stated that the government had been up and doing in the area of accommodation, mobility and logistics and assured the NYSC Director-General of the continued cooperation of the state government.

Governor Orji said that the NYSC in Abia State had done well while the state government had partnered well with the scheme.

He congratulated the new DG of the NYSC on his appointment and expressed confidence that he would do well.

Earlier in his speech, Brig-Gen Olawumi thanked the Governor for the assistance the scheme was getting in the state to make the camp conducive for corps members.

He said that he was in the state for the swearing-in of Stream 2 of Batch C corps members deployed to the state and assured the Governor of the continued partnership of NYSC with the state in areas requiring the skills of corps members to foster development in the state.
