Orile-Igbon indigenes petition Ajimobi, others over selection of monarch

Some indigenes of Orile-Igbon in Surulere Local Government area of Oyo state have called on Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State to carry out a thorough investigation into what they term as “Royal Fraud”.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday by Concerned Indigenes of Orile-Igbon, signed by its Acting Chairman, Alabi Adebayo and Secretary Olusola Ige, the appointment and declaration of the new Olugbon was fraudulent and laced with political influence.

The group in the statement declared that, “Our clamour is for justice and the immediate revision of the evil done to the historical community by the enemies of progress, who have caused a negative effect in the community and has already set a dangerous precedence.

“There wouldn’t have been any issue if due process of selection was followed.

“Customary law guides the process not the local government or foreign bodies.

“Neither the king makers nor the Royal Family were given the time to do the needful before the local government declared and presented Olusola is not known to be a member of any of the ruling houses as a candidate, contrary to customary law”.

“He has not hidden his disdain for those who did not support his move to be king by force as some of his agent have resolved to threatening the lives and position of some of the high Chief’s and Baale’s who are not on the same page with him.

“He has started an illegal incursion into land which does not belong to him which has brought another court case against him. He does not know the community and neither do they know him. This is a huge setback that is affecting the peace and growth of the ancient community.

“No one is happy in Orile Igbon that an outsider railroaded the process of selection and we want the executive governor of the state to quickly intervene and save everyone the time and money at the court of law.

“The Imposed king has been boasting about using their relationship with Governor Ajimobi to get away with their wrongdoing but we are confident that Governor Ajimobi is a law abiding governor who does not harbour unfair treatment and injustice especially when it comes to the issues affecting the traditional institutions. Orile Igbon people are peaceful and law abiding but how long will they take the higher moral ground in the face of this abomination?”
