A loyalist to former military head of state and presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhamadu Buhari, has faulted claims by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the emergence of Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke as OPEC President, is part of the results of the government’s transformation agenda.
Speaking in Enugu on Sunday, to members of the Buhari Support Organization (BSO), Mr Osita Okechukwu flayed the statement, describing it as a blatant falsehood and nothing but the speciality of the President Jonathan’s spin-doctors to pull the wool over the face of gullible Nigerians.
He argued that “If it is true that the transformation agenda is successful, why is over 70% of Nigerians living beyond poverty line? Why is the Naira being devalued?
“OPEC by tradition rotates its presidency among member countries and that is exactly what the organization did in its 166th meeting; which means that any Ade, Maigari or Okafor could have been made the president of OPEC, if he is at this material time, the minister representing our dear country.
“It is Nigeria’s turn, pure and simple and has nothing to do with global recognition or the outcome of the non-plus and failed transformation agenda”.
Going further, Okechukwu said that Mrs Alison-Madueke should tell Nigerians “why the 3 Greenfield Refinery awarded under her watch on 13 May, 2010 for $23billion, four years down the line have not taking off? Where is the money voted for the project?
“My dear compatriots the 3 Refineries were to be located at Bayelsa, Lagos and Kogi states and was to stem the huge cost of importation of refined petroleum products. The unfortunate outcome is that Nigeria is broke, Naira forcefully devalued and spiral inflation is ravaging the land”.
Okechukwu challenged the PDP to prosecute Mrs Alison-Madueke for economic crimes ranging from allegedly squandering of the Greenfield Refinery funds, the missing $20 billion to the scandalous hiring of jets for domestic use; rather than covering her crass corruption.
On the question of what must be done, Okechukwu said, “vote out the corrupt and anti-peoples Jonathan administration. A government that is so insensitive that it is contemplating removal of so called fuel subsidy, regardless of the fact that it allegedly squandered the billions of US Dollars that could have been used to repair the existing refineries and build new ones”.
