OPC reacts to National Assembly’s threat to impeach President Buhari

The Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, has reacted to the National Assembly’s impeachment threat against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Founder of the group, Frederick Fasehun commended the National Assembly for the resolution to sanction Buhari.

Recall that the National Assembly had at a joint session yesterday threatened to invoke its constitutional powers against Buhari over the “Systematic harassment and humiliation by the Executive of perceived political opponents.”

However, Fasehun said it was clear that the President had not learnt any lessons from his first outing as a military Head of State in 1984, when he was overthrown.

In a statement, the OPC leader stressed that Buhari runs an uncontrolled cabinet, “cocky and corrupt individuals who have mustered the daredevilry to dishonour the Legislature and hold the Judiciary in contempt.”

Fasehun insisted that the resolution was a commendable step to protect Nigeria’s democracy and check it’s slide into totalitarianism.

He said: “No one has said that the National Assembly is a gathering of infallible angels; but this Executive and Buhari’s holier-than-thou posturing has no basis in reality.

“It is quite unfortunate that a president whose slogan was ‘War Against Indiscipline’ now runs a cabinet of uncontrollable, cocky and corrupt individuals who have mustered the daredevilry to dishonour the Legislature, hold the Judiciary in contempt and harangue media and civil society.”
