OPC not a terrorist group – Gani Adams fires back at Tsav

National Coordinator, O’odua Peoples Congress, Chief Gani Adams, has lambasted former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Tsav, over a recent statement credited to him, describing OPC as a terrorist group.

It would be recalled that Tsav had on Thursday faulted the Federal Government on its plan to ban Boko Haram sect, wondering why it had failed to ban other groups, such as the OPC, for their involvement in acts of terrorism.

Gani in a statement issued on Thursday, said the OPC was not a terrorist group and had been in the vanguard of promoting peace and security in Nigeria.

He said, “It has come to the notice of the OPC that some prominent people from the North, who are not happy with the determination of the Federal Government to put a stop to the wanton killings in the region, have decided to cast aspersion on the OPC by equating it with the Boko Haram sect.

“We have decided to remain neutral and maintain our peace since the orgy of killings started. But we have taken note of statements credited to some prominent Northern leaders, especially since the crackdown on the sect began.

“We state here as a matter of fact that the OPC is a visible organisation, with known addresses all over the country. Its leaders are also known and accessible to all Nigerians, including security agencies.”

He claimed that the OPC had in the last 10 years restored peace and sanity in the South-West region.
