Ooni sent a powerful message to my phone day before ‘demise’ – Aregbesola

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has finally broken silence on the reported demise of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II.

Aregbesola, in his first public reaction to the Wednesday July 29 news of the Ooni’s passage, said Oba Sijuwade sent “a powerful SMS (Short Message Service) to him, a day before the reported demise.

Aregbesola, who spoke at the weekend on the floor of the Osun State House of Assembly during a special sitting organised to mark Speaker Nojeem Salaam’s 50th birthday, however, refused to disclose the content of the Ooni’s text message.

The governor described Ooni’s SMS text as touching, promising to share the content with the world when the time comes.

Aregbesola said he already discussed the message with the Ife Royal Traditional Council when he met with them in Osogbo.

He insisted that in Yorubaland, a traditional ruler does not die but demises.

It will be recalled that the governor held a closed-door meeting with some traditional rulers and high chiefs of Ile-Ife at the Oke-Fia Government House, Osogbo, on the day the news of Ooni’s death broke.

However, none of the them made any comment after the meeting.
