Ooni’s burial: VP’s protocol, organisers clash over allocation of table to Osinbajo, Aregbesol

There was confusion Friday morning at the Inter-Religious Farewell Service organized in honour of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, as the protocol officers of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and organisers of the event clashed over the allocation of tables to dignitaries.

The confusion took place at the make-shift hall where the ceremony is to take place.

A leader of the VP protocol team had picked a front table for Osinbajo but the organisers told him that the table was already designated for the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and other officials in the state.

The refusal of the organisers to accede to the demands of the VP protocol officers led to a heated argument as Osinbajo’s advance team insisted on reserving the table for the Vice President.

However, the intervention of Ife elders and prominent palace figures saved the day as the table was eventually left for the governor.
