Onnoghen’s resignation has restored integrity to Nigeria’s judiciary – Ukandu

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia state, Alhaji Suleiman Ukandu, has hailed the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen, for honorably throwing in the towel following the case of non declaration of assets slammed on him.

He said that singular act by Onnoghen has saved the integrity of the Nigeria judicial system as the last hope of the common man.

DAILY POST recalls that the lawyer to the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), disclosed that his client took the decision in the interest of the judiciary.

The lawyer said, “I have just spoken with him. He confirmed to me that he resigned on Thursday.

“He said he resigned in the interest of the judiciary”.

The PDP chieftain, who made his views known in a telephone interview with DAILY POST on Saturday, while reacting to the resignation of Onnoghen, maintained that the suspended Chief Justice’s resignation had equally restored sanity to the nation’s judicial process.

Ukandu, who is also a lawyer, said, “That’s the best thing for him to do… by throwing in the towel, in order to keep the integrity of the judiciary system. What he has done is highly commendable.”
