The Osun state Pastor of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor John Adeniran, has posited that the widespread corrupt practices in Nigeria cannot be successfully curbed without the assistance of God.
The cleric, who was speaking at a press conference on Saturday to herald the visit of the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor William Kumuyi, to many towns in Osun State, noted that public officials’ penchant to loot public treasury could not be linked to lack of means of livelihood but lack of contentment and greed.
He informed that Kumuyi will start the crusade from Ikire on July 22 and would visit Ejigbo, Ile Ife, Ede and Ilesa as part of his efforts to further propagate the gospel in the state.
According to Adeniran, “There are some people who are employed and some are holding public offices yet they are corrupt. Can one say those ones are corrupt because they do not have means of livelihood? No, they are corrupt because they lack contentment.
“They want to steal to have more; to oppress the poor because they are not godly. Except they turn their hearts to God to change them, they will continue in their ungodliness. If God does not deal with a man’s heart, this problem will continue.”
The pastor pointed out that man’s refusal to submit to God was responsible for involvement of some in kidnapping, ritual killing, insincerity and numerous other ungodly acts.
While observing that political leaders in the country were making efforts to educate children and to create employment, he stated that their efforts might not be good enough to turn around the situation in the country except God accorded them wisdom to be successful.
