Former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni has described the death of veteran journalist, Mr. Alade Odunewu as a sad loss, not only to the journalism profession but Nigeria as a whole.

Reacting to Odunewu’s death through his Media Aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka, the former governor said; “Allah De will be sorely missed as a great pen pusher, who used his God-given talent to affect the society positively.”

Oni said; “I still remember Baba Odunewu’s famous satirical essays and his ‘Allah De’ columns written when he worked with the Daily Times of Nigeria. They were masterpiece that I never missed.

“Even though Baba died at 85, the journalism profession cannot but miss a man who was the managing director of the Nigerian Tribune (the oldest surviving newspaper in Nigeria), Editor Daily Times and later Editor-in-chief of the Times Publications.

“He was a great pen pusher, who never compromised his integrity and that of the journalism profession.

“Baba’s death has no doubt denied the journalism profession the wealth experience of another of its veterans.

“It therefore is my prayer that the almighty Allah will grant the deceased eternal rest and also grant all members of the journalism profession, the Odunewu family and the entire people of Ikorodu in particular and Nigeria in general the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
