One killed, others injured as OPC, cultists clash in Ibadan

One person was on Sunday killed while others sustained serious injuries in a clash between members of the Oodu People’s Congress, OPC and some suspected cult members in the Apete area of Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Residents of Apete, were said to have scampered in different directions in fear when the incident occurred.

Trouble however started when some OPC men came from Bere area of Ibadan demanding that those at Apete stop operating under the guise of the real OPC.

This was said to have led to an argument which ended up in a bloody clash.

While commenting on the incident, the Oyo State Chairman of OPC, Alhaji Adeagbo, disclosed that the crisis had been on for some time.

He said: “This informed the hostility that they have for us. Unfortunately, the law enforcement agency there has connived with them. There was a time they attacked our members and wounded them. We took it up and it was settled.

“This has been the situation at Apete. Also, there are some cult groups, who have joined hands with the vigilance group to unleash terror on the people there.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, while confirming the development affirmed: “We have provided adequate security in the area.

“Our men are already on ground to forestall any further outbreak of law and order,” Ajisebutu said.
