A commercial bus operator with Onitsha South Mass Transit identified as Onyia on Sunday afternoon lost his life at UNIZIK junction in Awka after a RAV4 mini SUV lost control and veered off the road.
The deceased commercial bus operator, whose vehicle was being loaded with passengers for a trip to Abakaliki, was reported to have moved to another motor park to look for passenger to fill his bus but decided to eat in a restaurant in the park when he was called on phone that his vehicle was already filled.
“He was rushing back to the park to commence his journey to Abakaliki when this car lost control and hit him, and he died instantly,” a source in the park narrated.
An eyewitness said that two other persons who were walking along the road narrowly missed death as the vehicle tore past them to claim the life of the commercial bus driver.
The driver of the heavily mangled SUV with registration number, GDD 45 RW, Anambra, however survived the crash through the help of the car’s airbag.
DAILYPOST gathered that the deceased driver who was said to be in his early 50s was described as a very nice person, who was friendly with people in the motor park.
His body was promptly evacuated to an undisclosed morgue by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
