One dead, houses burnt as communities clash in Kogi

Pandemonium struck at the Ankpa Local Government Area, LGA of Kogi State as two communities – Ejinya Eheche and Ejinya Abakpa, clashed following a disagreement at the weekend.

Trouble started after a man, Noah Ado, was stopped by members of the vigilance group, but refused to stop, instead, ran into his apartment and brought out a double-barrelled gun.

While the men of the vigilance group tried to disarm him, he reportedly fired a shot which hit a farmer, Augustine Gabriel, who was passing by.

Reports say the victim (Gabriel) was rushed to a hospital, but died along the way.

Following the development, irate youths from the community (Ejinya Abakpa) of the deceased farmer stormed Ejinya Eheche village.

They set 12 houses ablaze, causing panic and chaos in the Ejinya Eheche community.

Residents were said to have deserted the community after the attack.

Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, William Aya, told newsmen on Monday that investigation was ongoing.

“Policemen have been deployed in the affected communities to restore normalcy,” the PPRO stated.
