Elders Assembly of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akure, Ondo State, yesterday, announced their decision to back Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his endorsement of one of the aspirants, Dr. Segun Abraham.
Chairman of the group, Senator Olurunimbe Farunkanmi said that despite the endorsement, the primaries would be free, fair and transparent as their support does not amount to imposition.
Deputy chairman, Chief Atanda Elemeje, said the endorsement was because they believed in Abraham’s candidature and that a motion moved to discourage aspirants from camping delegates was unanimously passed.
However, a member of the Assembly, Chief Muyide Adu also moved a motion of vote of confidence on Kekemeke, describing him as, “a loyal party man that promotes the interest of the party above his personal interest.”
The motion was seconded by Dr. Samuel Akerele and Sir Adeoye Akintade and subsequently passed by voice vote.
Kekemeke, who has been under fire for allegedly supporting Abraham, yesterday said: “I do not prefer any of the aspirants but I have also no power to deny anyone the constitutional right to prefer any aspirant. All I know is that I don’t have a preference”.
