Mimiko Celebrates
The battle to eject the Governor of Ondo continues on Monday, as the State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure gave the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the nod to “inspect, examine and make copies of the documents” used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the October 20 governorship polls.
The tribunal chairman, Justice A. Kaka’n, ordered the electoral umpire to allow the petitioner, make copies of the documents which includes: certified true copies, forms and votrers’s register used for the election.
In a ruling in which the two other members of the three-man panel were absent, Justice Kaka’n directed that the document inspection take place at the INEC office at Alagbaka, Akure. He also asked the police to provide security throughout the period.
Furthermore, Kaka’n ordered that the inspection should commence a day after the service of the tribunal’s order on the 3rd respondent (INEC).
He said the inspection of the materials and examination should be carried out concurrently by the petitioner and the first and second respondents. They are Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and his platform, Labour Party.
Meanwhile, the pre-hearing session for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Accord Party (AP) was adjourned till January 10, 2013.
Lead counsels to ACN and AP, Oluwole Aina and Micheal Lana, had earlier agreed that the process of court service on the respondents was still on course.
