Men of the Joint Security Task Force, initiated by the Ondo State government to curb insecurity in the state, have arrested seven suspected kidnappers at Emure-Ile junction on Owo/Akure road.
The suspects were jointly paraded on Wednesday at the police headquarters, in Akure by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Owena Cantonment, Major. Ojo Adenegan and the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph.
According to the police spokesman, they were arrested at a hide-out inside Emure-Owo Forest during the taskforce’s raid.
Joseph said: “the taskforce also arrested kidnappers’ informant who were monitoring the operations of the taskforce in the area. They were apprehended with about 20 guns, 15 daggers, 15 cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, charms, N27,820, as well as clothing materials.”
He added that the state police command also arrested two suspected weed planters, Friday Ami and Sunday Femi who allegedly assassinated a 75year-old woman, Mrs Modupe Olorunfemi at her Owo farm.
According to the PPRO, “the aged woman was assassinated on February 2017 for allegedly giving security operatives information about their nefarious planting and selling of Indian hemp in Owo area.”
