Two suspects who specialize in stealing of solar batteries from solar powered installations have been nabbed in Ondo State.
The duo identified as Olawadamilare Akindoye and Sunday Adegoke were apprehended by youths of Erekit -Lowoye, Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, who later handed them over to the police.
Parading the suspect at the headquarters of the Ondo State Police Command, the PPRO, Femi Joseph confirmed to DAILY POST that the suspects confessed to committing the crime, while two of the gang members are still at large.
“On 12th of August, at about 06:00hrs, information was received that some men were being held by youths of Erekiti Luwoye community, Igbotako.
“Thus a team of policemen led by Inspector Yemi Adekoya rushed to the community where two men were seen with the youths.
“Upon investigation, the youths leader named Ogunmakinwa Monday ‘m’ of 4, Olowodunjoye street, Erekiti near Igbotako stated that the men namely; Oluwadamilare Akindoye ‘m’ aged 37 years of age from Lagos ,Sunday Adegoke ‘m’ aged 28 years of Ilutitun under Okitipupa L.G.A were caught stealing solar light batteries provided for the community by the state government. The men were handed over to the police.
“On interrogation, the suspects claimed that there were two others who had escaped before the arrival of the youths. Efforts are in progress to arrest the other fleeing culprits.“
Meanwhile, the PPRO also informed DAILY POST that the command nabbed some criminals who specialize in the hijacking of motorcycles in Akoko and Idanre local government areas of the state.
“On Ugbala Azubuike of Ojolade Are, Odode Idanre, a commercial motorcyclist offered to carry two passengers; namely Yinusa Afizu ‘m’ and Monday Bernard ‘m’ on his motorcycle.
“Getting to Gbeku Hill, Idanre enroute Odode Idanre, one of the passengers Yinusa Afizu hit him on the head with an iron rod with the intent of robbing him of his motorbike.”
“However, the complainant raised the alarm and some good Samaritans came to his rescue, the two suspects were arrested and taken to the station.”
“Also, one Semiu Suleiman ‘m’ of Ikare Akoko came to Ikare Area Command and reported that on the same date, two young men that he could identify if seen, stopped him to carry them to Akungba-Akoko.”
“While getting to Paso Street, Akungba-Akoko, he was attacked with a locally made pistol and they went away with his Boxer Bajaj Motorcycle valued at Two Hundred and Sixteen Thousand Naira (N216,000).
“On the 11/08/2018, the same suspects were arrested, namely; (1)Abbey Damilola ‘m’ (2) Stanley Bello ‘m’. Exhibits recovered from the suspects were one locally made pistol, a toy gun, one Navy camouflage and weed suspected to be Indian Hemp.”
The PPRO assured that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
