MimikoFew days after a court authenticated party executives for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ondo State, the new state Chairman of the party, Dr Olu Ogunye resumed office yesterday amidst jubilation by party members and supporters.
Addressing party loyalists who gathered at the party Secretariat, on Oyemekun Road, Akure, the state capital to welcome him, the Chairman declared that there would be no room for illegality from any member of the party.
He said there is need for the state governor and his supporters to respect and abide with the constitution of the party, stressing that PDP is an organised party and would not allow any member to disorganize it
He stated : “we are ready for reconciliation, all of us own this party, this party does not belong to anybody personally, nobody can come and impose his wish on us.
” We fought for this party both at home and abroad, Mimiko can not come to PDP to become an impediment to the progress and development of our party.
” He is a son to me; I know he is a real grassroot politician, I also know how he became the Governor, and when he wanted to come back to PDP, I know about it and I welcome the idea but since he came back, he has been doing things illegally and unconstitutionally in the party and this would not be allowed. We can not allow him to come to our party and rubbish our constitution, it is impossible. ”
On the contentious sharing formula between the two factions, the medical practitioner-turned politician opined that Governor Mimiko should have allowed a sharing formula that would favour both the old and new members of the party instead of attempting to impose his wish on them.
He however expressed optimism that the party would get over the crisis engulfing it, saying executive committee has set up a reconciliation committee to fashion a way out, noting that the old PDP members are ready for reconciliation if the other faction too is ready to work with them in other to move the party forward.
