Ondo NUT asks Mimiko to return names of 366 teachers deleted from vouchers

The Ondo State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) yesterday called on the state government to restore 166 primary school teachers and 200 secondary school teachers whose names were removed from the vouchers during verification exercises.

The affected workers were said to have been tagged as ghost workers during the recent verification exercise.

Speaking at 2015 World Teachers’ Day held in Akure, the state capital, the NUT Chairman, Comrade Ojo Fanimokun, who confirmed that the said ghost teachers appeared physically for verification exercise, described their exclusion as witch-hunt.

According to him, “any teacher found culpable of any offence should be sanctioned following due process in the public service. Removal of names of workers from payment vouchers without following due process is wicked, callous and breach of public service rules and regulations”.

The NUT Chairman also lamented the situation where the accountant general always allegedly enjoyed paying the primary school teachers last, among the civil servants.

Fanimokun, however, urged the state government to integrate primary school teachers into the Housing/car loan scheme which he said was relatively of lower interest rate.

Also, the Chairman Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Dayo Adebiyi said “we need to bring to the notice of the Teaching Service Commission that all teachers, who are due for promotion as at January 1, 2015 are yet to attended to.

“We urge the TESCOM to move beyond the level of screening and carry out the proper interview without delay, anything that is worth doing at all is worth doing well at the right time”.
