Ondo NURTW leadership tussle worsens

It is no longer news that leadership tussle has torn the Ondo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, apart, however, what is news at the moment is that the crisis situation has become much more complicated than it was.

The situation became worse this weekend, as the Deputy Chairman of the Union, Omobomi Ajisafe was allegedly beaten to stupor by hoodlums believed to have been mobilized by a faction.

Insider sources have disclosed to DailyPost that the Deputy Chairman was invited to a drinking joint where he was ambushed and beaten up by thugs mobilized by the other faction.

DailyPost investigation reveals that Omobomi was rushed to a nearby hospital after other members had intervened.

The Deputy Chairman, while narrating his experience to newsmen said; “After returning from Abuja, I went to our secretariat on Friday, but I was shocked by the attitude of some junior officers who were abusing me.

“Their attitude towards me was abnormal so, I began to suspect foul play and decided to leave the secretariat.

“ As I made to leave, I received a phone call from the Chairman who asked me to come to a drinking joint beside the office.

“To my surprise, I saw many of our members there. They were armed but I could not turn back at that point. Before I knew what was happening, I was given the beating of my life in the presence of the chairman.

“At some point, he ordered them to stop beating me and asked my driver who was equally beaten to leave the place. I was immediately rushed to the hospital where I was treated of my wounds”.

At the moment, security has been beefed up around the office of the union to guide against further breakdown of law and order.
