Ondo NSCDC cooperative society in N300m scam, officers kick

Officers and men of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have accused the executive of the Command’s Staff Cooperative Society of embezzling a sum of N300million meant for their welfare.

To this end, the concerned officers have written a Save our Soul letter to the Commandant-General of the Corps, Mr. Abdullahi Gana Muhammed, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission to look into the matter and probe the executive of the command’s cooperative society.

Some of the concerned officers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told DAILY POST that the state command of the Corps had done nothing to bring the perpetrators to book.

They added that the national headquarters of the NSCDC had done anything about the matter in spite of series of letters to them on the development.

A concerned officer said, “the executive went ahead to access a loan of N300,000,000 from a branch of First Bank in Akure, with the collaboration of the manager of the bank, and a civilian, using fictitious names and accounts of the people that were not members of the Corps, without notifying the Congress, which is against the bye law of the NSCDC Cooperative Society.”

It was, however, gathered that the state command of the Corps had acted on the matter by arresting the perpetrators last year but that after a while, they were released and since then, noting had happened.

“The way the matter is being handled shows that our superiors want to sweep the matter under the carpet; that is why we don’t want to keep quite; this is not supposed to be happening in a law enforcement organization, this is injustice,” another officer lamented.

In his reaction however, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Kayode Balogun said the perpetrators had been arrested and detained at the headquarters of the command in Akure.

He said, “we are not keeping quiet about the matter; the officers concerned have been arrested, and currently they are in the cell, while the investigation is still going on”, Balogun stated.
