Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has called on members of the party in Ondo State to recognise Jimoh Ibrahim as its candidate in the forth coming guber election.
Senator Sheriff said he would soon inaugurate a national campaign organisation for Ibrahim in the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.
A Federal High Court in Abuja recently ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission should deal with Senator Sheriff as the leader of the party.
In a statement in Abuja yesterday, Sheriff appealed to all peace loving members of the party to key into the peace process and pray that the outcome of the process be successful.
In the statement, signed by his Deputy National Chairman, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, he said all members of the party should work towards achieving the reconciliation.
“We also irrevocably state that the peace process initiated by Sheriff and Makarfi is irreversible.
“Therefore, every peace loving member in PDP should key into the process and pray that the outcome will be a success to usher PDP into governance in 2019.
“Henceforth, members of the party are cautioned not to make statements that will escalate the crisis in the party,” he said.
Reiterating that PDP was a law abiding party that believed in the rule of law, Sheriff said: “We, therefore, state categorically that the court judgment affirming Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of PDP is a victory for democracy and an instrument to affirm the belief in the separation of powers among the executive, legislature and the judiciary.
“The National Working Committee, NWC, has concluded plans to inaugurate a national campaign organisation for Jimoh Ibrahim in Ondo State governorship election.
“We, therefore, call on PDP members in Ondo State and outside the state to cooperate with Ibrahim to ensure that PDP wins the state.”
