Ondo guber: Akeredolu denies sending thugs after Oke

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming November 26, governorship election in Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu has denied sending his supporters to attack his opponent and the Alliance for Democracy’s candidate, Chief Olusola Oke.

Aketin, as Akeredolu is fondly called, was accused of sending his supporters to attack and maim two of Oke’s men who were reportedly pasting the AD candidate’s posters in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Kunle Adebayo, Akeredolu described the allegation as a cheap blackmail, aimed at tarnishing his image.

The APC flag bearer sad it was Oke’s supporters that were removing Akeredolu’s posters in his (Akeredolu) home town, Owo.

He said, ”The truth is that the fracas in Owo was a deliberate act of provocation by the supporters of Olusola Oke who came to Owo to tear off the existing posters of Akeredolu and to superimpose the posters of Oke upon ours.

“The point is that they were never attacked by our people. It is never our practice to forment violence. The critical question to ask is why would Akeredolu attack Oke in Owo which is renowned as the comfort zone of Akeredolu?‎

“The point must be made again that what happened was an altercation between Oke’s men and Owo people who felt insulted by the apparent effrontery of Oke’s supporters to deface their hero’s posters. I can assure you that our people did not machete the opponents.”

The APC candidate called on the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs. Hilda Harrison to investigate the matter.
