Ahead of November 26 governorship election in Ondo State, the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo has reiterated his support for an indigene of his town to become the next governor of the state.
The monarch, spoke at a dinner held at the weekend in Akure in honour of prominent Akure sons, who were recently conferred with the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The SANs honored at the event included Olatunde Oluranti Adejuyigbe, Adeniyi Ayodele Adegbonmire and Dr. Oladapo Olanipekun.
The dinner, which was hosted by a Port-Harcourt based lawyer, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe SAN was attended by Governor Olusegun Mimiko and his wife, Kemi, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi, the President of the customary Court of Appeal, Justice Folasade Aguda-Taiwo and other members of the bar and bench as well as political and community leaders
Oba Aladetoyinbo noted that the only way to actualise their dream was for all the prominent indigenes of Akure to view the matter with all seriousness its deserved.
He expressed dismay that despite the position of Akure as the state capital and the impressive arrays of quality politicians from the community, it had not occupied the top seat since the creation of the state in 1976.
According to the monarch, “all the old divisions have one time or the other, produced the occupant of the governorship seat, except Akure where the seat is physically located. This is not acceptable to us and the time to correct the anomaly is now.”
However, Adedipe, who used the occasion to commission the state-of-the-art event centre built in Akure, called on the need for unity among politicians to bring the needed development to the metropolis.
Adedipe said he organised the dinner to celebrate the industry and commitment of the honorees to the legal profession.
Adegbonmire, who is a governorship aspirant of All Progressives Congress (APC) thanked the host and pledged to live up to the expectations of the community. .
