The Ondo State Government on Thursday warned all herdsmen across the state to stay away from government farm centres or face prosecution.
The Chairman of the State Wealth Creation Agency (WECA), Mrs Olafunmiloye Bolanle stated this in Ore, Odigbo local government in a meeting with leaders of herdsmen.
Bolanle said government would no longer fold its arms and allow any group of people or individuals to sabotage its effort in making life more meaningful for its citizens.
Bolanle rued cattle rearers` invasion of farms with attendant large scale destructions of crops and other recreational facilities, despite several meetings held with them on the same issue.
She noted that the Ore Agro Business City was one of the largest among other farm cities established across the state by the Gov. Olusegun Mimiko-led administration.
The chairman said the centre would serve as incubation centre for training and exposing youths to the entire agricultural value chain that would propel them into wealth creation ventures.
She said the present administration would give priority to agricultural development as an alternative source of revenue and employment generation for the unemployed youths.
The chairman explained that government had expended a lot of resources on agricultural sector, with a view to creating additional wealth to the economy.
She stated that the government`s decision had reduced joblessness and increased food production for the populace.
Responding, the State Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Bello Garuba said he would soon call a meeting of members of his association.
He promised to inform the members on the agreement reached and prevail on them to desist from grazing their animals on government and individual farms.
Garuba, however, suggested that two of the association’s members should be involved in the monitoring of the herdsmen around the Agro Business city and other parts of the state.
