Ondo State government has concluded arrangements to establish cremation centres in the state.
This is following the passage of the bill on cremation into law by the Ondo State House of Assembly.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, who disclosed this in Akure, said the centre would be put in place after the state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko signs the cremation law.
The Commissioner said the cremation centre would enable the people of the state to ensure proper disposal of the remains of people affected by contagious diseases.
Adeyanju urged the people of the state to always obey instruction from the health practitioners to avert the outbreak and spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD ) in the state.
He explained that Governor Mimiko would soon sign the already passed law to enable its implementation.
The commissioner, however, urged the people of the state to continue to abide by the precautionary measures already put in place to stop the spread of the disease.
According to him ” Ebola will come and go, there had been some diseases like that, that have come and gone in the past, what we need to do is to just obey the instructions against the disease. If there is any suspicious case, we implore our people to call, we are also expecting them to always ask questions”.
On the controversy over resumption date of students, Adeyanju implored parents not to be in a hurry but allow the government to ensure the country is free of EVD before school activities begin.
He said “if our students must go back to school, they should not go back in trouble, we should not forget that only one case in Lagos brought problem to the whole country, so there should not be need for us to be in a hurry about our children’s resumption date”.
