Ondo: Five sustain severe injuries in road accident

Five persons at the weekend sustained serious injuries in an auto crash in Oka-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The accident, which occurred along Owo/Abuja road was said to have been caused by high speed on the part of a truck driver coming from the Northern part of the country.

It was gathered that the truck, which rammed into a stationed car was heading for Lagos. Its driver reportedly took to his heels after the accident.

An eyewitness, Mrs. Taiba Yaya told DAILY POST that the accident caused gridlock on the busy road, which links the south to the northern part of the country.

It was learnt that those who sustained injuries in the accident were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo where they were receiving medical treatment.

The unit commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ikare, Mr. Jimoh Basiru who confirmed the accident said high speed was responsible for the accident.

The FRSC boss who added that the truck had been impounded, warned drivers against high speed on the road, saying the road was in deplorable condition.
