Son of late Ondo State Governor, Adebayo Adefarati, Gboyega yesterday warned the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Olusola Oke to stop campaigning with his father’s name.
Gboyega, who was reacting to the AD flag-off campaign held in Akure ahead of the November 26, governorship election, where Oke was referred to as political son of late Obafemi Awolowo, Adekunle Ajasin and Adefarati.
Gboyega, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wondered why Oke, whom he said was among those who ousted his father from power and planted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government, suddenly believes his father political ideologies.
He warned the people not to be deceived by Oke’s political antics, saying the AD flagbearer is only wearing the cloth of progressives but his blood is purely conservative.
According to him, “Oke should be asked why he dumped his initial party, Action Alliance (AA) where he intended to contest before running to AD.
“It is because he knows that his name alone has no political credibility to mobilise supporters for him under AA and that was why he ran to AD and started campaigning with my father’s name, Ajasin and Awolowo’s name as he believes in their political ideologies.
“Oke should leave my father’s name alone and he should campaign with his own father’s name.
“If my father were alive, he would never associate with someone like Oke because he was among those who ruined the country when he was in PDP for 16.
“Can Oke point to his achievements in his own town in Ilaje when he was the chairman of OSOPADEC and member of the board of NDDC.
“Anybody who wants to wake AD must first wake up my late father because the symbol and flag of AD has been buried with my late father, who was the party Presidential candidate in 2007 before he died few weeks to the election.
“Our people, particularly my kinsmen in Akokoland should not be cajoled by those presenting Oke as their messiah.
“We should remember how Governor Olusegun Mimiko disguised himself as a progressive and at the end, he betrayed the progressive leaders in the south west and also marginalised the Akoko”.
Gboyega, urged the people of the state to vote for the Governorship candidate of APC, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, saying he his the only candidate that will be truthful to the masses.
