Ondo election: Jegede accuses Jimoh Ibrahim of shooting at his campaign office

The factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, on Monday alleged that the security men attached to the court declared candidate of PDP, Bar. Jimoh Ibrahim opened fire on his campaign office along Ijapo road in Akure, the state capital.

Jegede, who spoke to reporters, shortly after the incident through his media aide, Mr. Kayode Fasua, said the incident lasted for 10 minutes.

He alleged that 10 people, who were at the campaign office sustained injuries.

According to him, “Ibrahim’s security in a convoy stopped at our campaign office and started shooting sporadically.”

But a member of Jimoh Ibrahim Campaign Committee, Hon. Demola Ijabiyi dismissed the allegation.

Ijabiyi said the security men only shot into the air to prevent the convoy of Ibrahim from being attacked by the supporters of Jegede.

However, the faction of the Ahmed Markafi led’s PDP in the state has called on the federal government to withdraw the security officers attached the PDP governorship candidate.

In a statement issued by the Director of Publicity, Mr Ayo Fadaka, the PDP faction said it “notes with absolute dismay the disorderly conduct of Jimoh Ibrahim who led a detachment of Police to Eyitayo Jegede’s Campaign Office this morning on a shooting spree”.

The party said Jimoh’s action’s action is not only criminal but an absolute abuse of an unmerited privilege conferred on him through the deployment of security escorts to him by the Federal Government.

It declared the action as “further infringement of the fundamental rights and privacy of Mr Eyitayo Jegede, whose mandate was to fly the flag of the Party he (Jimoh Ibrahim) stole”.
