Ondo Council of Obas may ban Eze-Ndigbo title

The Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo at the weekend said the State Council of Obas will on Thursday ratify the resolution of the first class monarchs that the title of Eze Ndigbo in the state should be scrapped.

Oba Aladetoyinbo spoke in his palace when the leadership of the Afenifere Renewal Group(ARG)under the leadership of Chief Wale Oshun paid a solidarity visit to the monarch.

The group was represented by the Ondo State Chairman of ARG,Dr Bayo Ademodi and other executives.

The Akure monarch noted that the Igbo in Akure and their leaders have discovered that they had made a mistake especially when they realised that the entire Yoruba race was up in arms against the affront on the Deji’s throne by the dethroned Eze Ndigbo.

Oba Aladetoyinbo disclosed that Sir Gregory Iloehike and his followers had come to apologise with expression of regret and commended the state government for its supportive role which according to him has played a major role in reducing the tension the squabble has generated.

The ARG leader said they were on the visit to the monarch to express their displeasure on the abduction of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation(SGF) Chief Olu Falae by suspected Fulani herdsmen and the recent disrespect to Oba Aladetoyinbo by the dethroned Eze Ndigbo.

Oshun through Ademodi encouraged the monarch to immediately abolish the title of Eze Ndigbo which he conferred on Ileohike apparently on account of liberal disposition of the Yoruba race in their dealings with other ethnic nationalities.

He prayed for long life on the throne for Oba Aladetoyinbo, assuring the support of ARG in its determination to maintain the sanctity of the culture and tradition of Yorubaland.
