Strong indications have emerged that members of the Ondo state House of Assembly may this week commence an impeachment process against the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Alli Olanusi who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The leadership of the House of Assembly, it was learnt have met and arranged to put necessary plans in place to ensure that the process of Olanusi’s impeachment starts as soon as possible.

The House of Assembly, which is made up of 26 members comprises 23 PDP lawmakers and two APC lawmakers, while a seat is vacant.

It is expected that the House will any time this week start the process of impeaching the Deputy Governor.

It was learnt that members of the PDP in the House have been meeting on how to commence the process for the impeachment of Olanusi.

However, an APC member in the house, Hon. Gbenga Edema said the leadership of the APC has met and made necessary resolutions on the matter, saying “the matter should be considered as speculation for now.”

He said none of the two APC members in the house has received any notice for the commencement of impeachment process against the Deputy Governor.

According to him “we have not been informed of any impeachment process by the leadership of the house. We are just two in the House of Assembly and we consider all that we are hearing as ordinary speculation for now.”

He added that, “when we get the notice of impeachment and the Deputy Governor is served with the impeachment notice by the leadership of the house, the two of us who are APC members in the house will know what to do.”

Many interest groups, including youths from all the 18 Local Government Areas of the state have called for the resignation of Olanusi since his defection to the APC.

The groups have also tasked the state House of Assembly to impeach Olanusi following his defection to the APC if he fails to resign.

Olanusi who still lays claim to his election as the Deputy Governor of the state, insisted that he was duly elected the same way the Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko was elected.

He however alleged that his allowances and those of his aides have been withheld by the state government, and he is currently challenging the development in an Akure division of the state High court.
