One of the governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who participated in the last Saturday’s primary election in Ondo State, Hon. Victor Olabimtan, yesterday appealed to all aggrieved aspirants to sheathe their swords and support the party candidate, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
Olabimtan said the only way APC can defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is for all the aspirants to remain united ahead of the November 26, poll.
Also, a former representative of the state in the Niger Delta Commission Board (NDDC), Mr. Benson Enikuomehin blamed supporters of the aspirants for fueling the crisis of the party.
The duo spoke on a private radio programme in Akure, the state capital, and monitored by DAILY POST.
Olambitan, who was the former speaker of the state Assembly, said the issue being raised by some of the aspirants were pre-primary election issues.
Olabimtan, who narrated what really occurred during the exercise, said it was true that the list of delegates given to them earlier was changed.
He explained that, “we were initially given a list, which we used for our campaigns and when we got to Abuja, we were given another list.
“When we went through the new list, we all discovered that there were some names that were changed in the new list and we all complained and we both agreed with the committee that we should use the initial delegates list given to us for the primary and that was what was used.
“So, those expressing their anger are right but they must know that we must remain united to unseat PDP government in Ondo State.
“We were given the opportunity to ensure that all the delegates accredited are genuine because all the aspirants agents are there.
“At the voting centre, those of us who are aspirants, were not allowed to take our cars inside the venue except the delegates, who conveyed to the venue in buses and which was fully protected by security operatives.
” Our primary may not be perfect but it has produced a winner. Akeredolu is a member of my party and I want my party to win.
“I have said it on several times that we are not campaigning for the party but for ourselves which make some of us to see it as life and death.”
Enikuomehin, who claimed to be an agent of one of the aspirants (not Akeredolu) adjudged the exercise as the best that he had ever witnessed.
He, however, appealed to the party candidates to ensure he get across to all the aggrieved gladiators and bring them on board.
His words, ” Akeredolu must ensure he gets across to Dr. Segun Abraham, Olusola Oke, Senator Boroffice and others and seeks for their corporation.
” Going to the social media to react must be stopped. The crisis rocking the party is a tea cup storm. The supporters must not cry more than the bereaved.
” To those who want to defect, we appeal to them to remain in APC. We have enough room to accommodate them.
